What to do now

Two questions, then a short procedure. Nothing here replaces medical advice — if a reaction is severe, contact emergency services.

Mild reaction

  1. Move away from the area to avoid further stings.
  2. If the stinger is visible (typical of bees), scrape it off with a fingernail or a stiff card, avoiding squeezing it.
  3. Apply ice wrapped in a cloth to the area to reduce swelling and pain.
  4. Watch the area over the following hours: if swelling worsens significantly or other symptoms appear, contact a doctor.

A reaction can change. If you are worried, or it seems strong or unusual, don’t wait — get medical help.

HornetAlert is not a medical service. Nothing on this page is medical advice, and nothing here is a diagnosis — none of it replaces assessment by a health professional.
